Shri Ashwani Kumar (born on 26 October 1956), a politician from the Indian National Congress party, is a Member of the Parliament of India representing Punjab in the Rajya Sabha. He is currently the Minister of State in the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion and also Minister of State in the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.
By profession, he is a senior advocate of the Supreme Court.In July,2002 he was first elected to Rajya Sabha and since then, he has held several significant positions including that of member Committee on Defence (2003-2004), Member Committee on Energy (2004-2006) and Member Consultative Committee for the Ministry of Power (April 2006). He is presently the Minister of State in the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion, Ministry of Commerce and Industry. Kumar has not only control in politics but also in print media-written several articles in newspapers and magazines on law, economic reforms, elections, democracy and also in international affairs.
