Originally from Punjab, Ajay Devgan was born in Delhi on April 2, 1969. His father is Veeru Devgan, a stunt choreographer and his mother's name is Veena. His brother, Anil, is a Bollywood film director. He graduated from Mithibai College. He married actress Kajol on February 24, 1999. They have one daughter, Nysa, born on April 20, 2003. Ajay Devgan made his debut in the film Phool Aur Kaante (1991) for which he won the Filmfare Best Debut Award. Though his earlier movies mostly consisted of action flicks, he broke the trend when he starred in the romantic comedy Ishq in 1997.In 1998 he starred opposite Kajol in the entertaining romantic comedy Pyaar To Hona Hi Tha. His next flim directed by Mahesh Bhatt was Zakhm. This was highly acclaimed and he won two prestigious awards – National Film Award for Best Actor and Star Screen Best Actor Award. He went on to star in several acclaimed hits such as Sanjay Bhansali's Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam (1999)and Ram Gopal Varma’s Company (2002).Devgan's first 2008 release Halla Bol proved to be another box office washout. His directorial debut U, Me Aur Hum starring his wife Kajol, released on April 11, 2008. He is the Brand Ambassador for Bagpiper and Tata Indicom.
